Twitter Apps and Tools

I <3 Twitter! It lets you share and discover things, express and learn opinions, and a whole lot of other things. As your account grows day by day, the complexity and difficulty of reading updates, and managing followers is quite overwhelming.

These are some of my favorite applications and tools that I use for my Twitter account:

Yoono Desktop
Although a Firefox add-on is available, I prefer the Desktop app version. Aside from Twitter, Yoono Desktop supports Facebook, GTalk, and Yahoo Messenger, as well as AIM, Flickr, MySpace, and LinkedIn.

I tried quite a few desktop apps for Twitter and Facebook, and Yoono Desktop seems to be the most complete, in terms of notifications and features.

TrueTwit.com
TrueTwit is a verification service, where your followers enter a captcha phrase in order to verify that they are human, and not bots. The great thing about this service is that when you already have a truetwit account, you no longer have to enter the captcha answer, and you are automatically verified. If the TrueTwit user also specified to auto-follow verified followers, you will then be automatically followed by that user.

I've noticed that some users dislike having to "verify" that they are human. The easiest solution to this is to be a validated TrueTwit user! Also, if your TrueTwit account is set to auto-follow verified followers, the following back is no longer a chore. (^-^)

ReFollow.com

This is described as a Twitter Relationship Manager service, where it helps you discover, manage, and protect your Twitter social circle. Using the ReFollow, you can easily find out and sort your Twitter account to:

  • People following / not following me
  • People I'm following / I'm not following
  • And many more filters.
Refollow makes it easy to follow new people, reciprocate follows, and unfollow people. And all these can be done in batches. (Manual follow/unfollow is really really difficult and tedious, when using twitter.com!)

Ping.fm
This service lets you update almost all of your social networks. I currently use Twitter, Facebook, and Yahoo Profiles. Ping.fm enables me to post a status update on all three, with just one update. What's more, it has a mobile site version, so you can update your status using your mobile easily!

Follow Friday! by The Twitter Tag Project
I just discovered this recently. This helps you generate FollowFriday tweets automatically. You just enter your Twitter username, then it scans your last 200 tweets, and returns your most active friends in the following format:

#FollowFriday @friend1 @friend2 @friend3 @friend4

Tried this last week, and it works like a charm. (^-^)

How about you? What are your favorite tools for Twitter?
